Testimonial request email generator

Pick a tone, add the project and a result you're proud of, and choose the questions. Get an email that makes saying yes take two minutes.

One per line. Two or three specific questions get better answers than "could you write something?".

Best for clients you've built a real rapport with. Send it within a week of delivery, while the result is fresh.

Your email

Subject: A small favour? Hi [Client], I've really enjoyed working with you on [project], and I'm so glad about how the project turned out. Would you be willing to write a few lines about working together? Testimonials from clients like you are the main way new clients find and trust me, so it would mean a lot. To make it easy, here are a few questions you could answer (no need to cover them all): - What was the situation before we started working together? - What difference has the project made for you? - What would you tell someone thinking of hiring me? Just reply to this email; a few sentences is perfect. I'll send you the final wording before I use it anywhere, and I'm happy to include your name, role and company, or keep it anonymous, whichever you prefer. Thank you so much, [Your name]

The easiest time to get a testimonial is right after a smooth project. Clinch makes the next one smooth from the start, with a contract signed from the client's phone: start from the freelance service agreement template →

How to get testimonials clients actually write

Ask at the high point, within a week of a successful delivery. Make it specific: two or three questions about the before, the after and the experience produce testimonials with real detail, which are far more convincing than "great to work with". Tell the client how it will be used and offer to let them approve the final wording. If there's no reply after a week, send one gentle follow-up, then let it go.

FAQ

When is the best time to ask for a testimonial?

Right after a successful delivery or a visible result, when the client is happiest. Waiting months makes the answer vaguer and less likely.

Can I write the testimonial for the client?

You can offer a draft based on things they've already said to you, but always get their explicit approval. Never publish words they haven't agreed to.

What if the client doesn't reply?

Send one short follow-up after about a week. If there's still no answer, drop it; they're busy, not unhappy.

Where should I use testimonials?

On your website, in proposals near the price, and on your LinkedIn or review profiles. A testimonial next to the price reduces hesitation the most.
