What a good freelance proposal includes

A proposal is a sales document, not a contract: it should restate the client's goal in their words, list concrete deliverables, give a realistic timeline and one clear price, and end with a single next step. Keep it to a page. Offer options only if they are genuinely different (for example a smaller and a larger scope). Once accepted, move the same scope into a signed agreement with a deposit, so the proposal's promises become enforceable terms.

FAQ

How long should a freelance proposal be?

One to two pages is enough for most projects. Clients skim; the goal, deliverables, price and next step should be visible without scrolling.

Should I include my price in the proposal?

Yes. A proposal without a price just delays the real conversation. State one fixed price, or two or three clearly different packages.

How much deposit should I ask for?

30–50% upfront is standard for fixed-price work. For short projects under a few weeks, 50% is common; for long ones, split the rest into milestones.

Is a proposal legally binding?

Usually not on its own, especially if it's missing terms like payment, revisions and ownership. Turn the accepted proposal into a signed agreement before you start.

From proposal to signed contract.

Clinch drafts the agreement from your scope with AI, your client signs from their phone, and the deposit is requested the moment they sign.
